Alexandra Barie has been
riding since the age of seven. She received most of her training from Carolyn Reid, who competed at the National Collegiate
Championship level. Alex received additional training from Julie and Tara Edwards. (Tara made it to the Olympic trials for
Equestrian sports!) Alex started her riding career with a small pony named Jewel. The duo won four Grand Championships and two Reserve
Championships in their first two years of showing. It was not long before Alex needed a bigger and stronger horse. That’s
when she purchased The Sheik. Within two years they too were winning lots of ribbons, but this time it was for jumping. They
won five Championships and three Reserves Championships. The Sheik was also the first horse Alex took to the Open Horse Show
in Lake Placid, where she placed in some of the toughest classes in the Region. She also ventured out to St. Lawrence University
where she continued her winning ways with The Sheik. Unfortunately,
Alex outgrew The Sheik, (literally!) and decided to purchase Fusser, a wild eyed former race horse. Being only six, he had
little experience jumping or showing. But it was love at first sight. Two years later, after several bumps and bruises, Fusser
and Alex have become the duo to watch. Alex has taken Fusser to several shows, and although they are not unbeatable, they
are certainly very competitive. Together they have already won five Championships and five Reserve Championships.
Fusser also accompanied Alex to Lake Placid and St. Lawrence, where they managed to hold their own. Horse back
riding to Alex is not just a sport, it is a passion, thus her reason for starting Horses in Motion. Alex’s dream is
to spread the love of horse back riding to people, young and old, everywhere.
